Pauline Réage was a pen name of Dominique Aury (1907 - 1998), author of L'Histoire d'O (The Story of O) in 1954.
A semi-documentary film about her came out in 2005, known in English as Writer of O. It has some lovely, if slightly tame, dramatizations of a few scenes from the book. It also tells the story of how one of the most intellectually prestigious women in France came to write what may arguably be the most famous piece of French pornography since the Marquis de Sade.
