User data

Simply visiting the web site does not expose your identity publicly.

Your network IP address may be recorded for server administrators, developers and by users who have been granted "CheckUser" access. It will not normally be available to the public except in cases of abuse.

As with any web site, your name, e-mail address, IP address (and its connection to any usernames that share it) and other information collected may have to be released for legal reasons. The data will not be traded nor otherwise deliberately exposed.

Identification of an author

To add a new page or to edit a page in Wipipedia, you must be logged in.

If you contribute to Wipipedia, you are publishing publicly. This may be retained forever and forever connected to the identification details collected at the time. While a request to permanently delete a contribution might be considered, you surrender your ownership of your contribution at the time you post it and therefore have no right to have it withdrawn.

Your edits will be available for people to view in the "history" section of any entry you've worked on and will be identified by your user name. Depending what you have entered when signing up, or changed subsequently in your preferences, this might be your real name. Along with your name, the times at which you edited and the number of edits made are publicly available via history, "user contributions" lists, and may be quoted by other users.

Cookies

The wiki will set a temporary session cookie (PHPSESSID) whenever you visit the site. If you do not intend to ever log in, you may deny this cookie, but you cannot log in without it. It will be deleted when you close your browser session.

More cookies may be set when you log in, to avoid typing in your user name (or optionally password) on your next visit. These last up to 30 days. You may clear these cookies after use if you are using a public machine and don't wish to expose your username to future users of the machine. (If so, clear the browser cache as well.)

Software logs

Every time any web page is viewed, a lot of information is sent to the web server, via intermediary servers. Most servers routinely maintain access logs with a portion of this information. It is not the intention to use this information to keep track of legitimate users.

Security of information

While endeavours are made to ensure the security of personal data, no guarantee can be made against unauthorized access to any information you provide.

Further information

More information about the software is available from WikiMedia.
