Rubberella
Rubberella is/has been the stage name of several different underground and burlesque performers. The title of Rubberella was later trademarked by the original incarnation of the fetish film company Gwen Media as a specific fictional character.
This specific name has been used by at least two different underground fetish performers before being formally incorporated as a definite trademark character. The more popular of these stage performers was an Atlanta, Georgia performer who used the name of Rubberella as her stage name as early as 1997 at www.secretroom.net[archived] (now defunct) and ran her own promotion site at www.rubberella.net[ubberella.net archived] (now defunct). She stopped using the name after she met Jean Bardot and was "informed" of the formal trademark of the character. The Atlanta model then changed her stagename to Rubberoticka and ceased using rubberella.net as her website. She still performs under the stage name of Rubberoticka and is based at the Atlanta club.
The most popular user of the Rubberella title has been noted burlesque performer Jean Bardot who along with Gwenmedia founder and producer Bob Zak created a specific formal character using that title for a series of fetish sci-fi based films. The character was originally intended as Mistress Jean's film alter ego set in a futuristic apocalyptic Earth which has been devastated by a meteor shower as she intended to remould the remaining survivors of that future Earth into her rubber-enclosed servants. Jean proved to be so successful and notable in the role that she began to be called Rubberella outside of that character's film world. Jean largely became synonymous with the character. Jean later adopted a more complete public name "Jean Bardot" to separate her from that specific character for her other films, though Jean never discouraged any of her fans from addressing her in the name of Rubberella.
As a specific trademark of Gwenmedia, the character was intended to have been reactivated as a new series under the management of the new Gwenmedia, now owned by Isabella Sinclaire, in 2007 as part of their other series restarts which have included "Ivy Manor" and "Sessions" series. But due to certain reactions, the Rubberella series was placed on hiatus while better development (story, set design) and a continually reliable performer could be attained before the series will be restarted.
It is a matter of some public debate that Jean and Isabella were unable to come to any agreement on Jean's continuation in the role that she made so popular for the previous incarnations of Gwenmedia. Bardot nor Sinclaire have not publicly gone into any detail as to what the reason was that caused Bardot to abandon the role. Sinclaire stated in 2008 before she closed down operations that she wanted to continue the Rubberella series with a new performer who was to have been specified. Sinclaire abandoned all attempts in late 2008 when she closed down Gwen Media and sold off the studio in late 2009.
As of the March 2014 restart of Gwen Media, Sinclaire has not stated if she will restart the Rubberella series. Also if Gwen Media does restart the series will such restart be a complete reboot wiping away Bardot's episodes or a continuation with the new performer succeeding Bardot's character.
