Should this page be protected or should we allow it to be edited as well?

I think it should be protected. As the first calling point for newbies, it is the obvious place to spoof or spam. What I REALLY came here to say, however, is that it is not suited for all skins. With the skin I use, I can't see most of the text. Presumably (I've not looked) it is using hard-coded colouring? It shouldn't! --Interesdom 15:20, 14 Apr 2005 (BST)

Balzac says: Only sysops can edit it. It has been hard coded to work with the default skin, perhaps I should go back into the site and remove the alternate skins. Basically when I modified the skin I tried to make it as close to the new LFS format as possible without having to go the effort of completely writing a new skin for the wipi. Interesdom says: The problem with the default skin is that some people find anything on black hard to read. This is most especially so when there is coloured text (for some, like me) or white text (for some other disorder). I've now changed my skin to classic (the same as I use on Wiki) and the front page is visible. --Interesdom 03:12, 15 Apr 2005 (BST)

Balzac says: I do find it hard to disagree with you over this :-) But my hands are somewhat tied as I do need to keep it look and feel in line with the main site.

Interesdom says: Sure, no problem with the default being to match the LFS site - I'm just tying to stop you removing all other skins!

Skins

I have removed some of the less useful and duplicate skins. I have also added the monobook skin used as the default for wikipedia (monobookalt). Does anyone know how I can change the markup on the main page so taht it takes its layout from a ccs style sheet. I can then put the formatting in a stylesheet linked to the skin so they people who don't linl the LFS format can revert to one that is kinder on the eyes and still read the main page!
