The article was copied from Wikipedia, ideally this should be edited to make it more relevant to the UK scene and to the BDSM community as a whole.

[edit] My sense of the connotation of "femdom"

To me, "femdom" is not simply the fact that a female is dominant. It suggests a certain subset of that. Among other things, I would use this term only where the female retains a reasonably specifically femme persona. That doesn't mean that she can't (for example) use a strap-on, but I would not consider a dominant dykey butch to be doing femdom. (Now, a woman lending her husband to that dykey butch for a pegging? That's femdom.)

Similarly, I see femdom as involving at least some degree of eroticism (vs. straight-out pain play). I would hesitate to use the word "femdom" about a scenario in which a woman simply administered a beating to a man in a context where genitals don't enter the picture. That would certainly be female-dominant S/m, but I would probably never call it "femdom".

Conversely, I would be very quick to use this term for anything around a complex of elements such as tease and denial of the male, cunt and ass worship, humiliation (especially slightly infantilizing humiliation, or "small dick" humiliation) of a male by a female, forced feminization, expression of affection simultaneously with infliction of pain, etc.

Would others make a similar distinction? Or is this just me being idiosyncratic in my usage?- Switchy 09:28, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

For me it works very much on traditional (or sexist) definition of feminine, with everything but being submissive. And the denial of everything that is meant to me masculine in the sub. Now it doesn't not necessarily mean sissification but it could very well include it. pegging fits this as it a form of reversal of domination. --Roguebfl (talk) 05:41, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
There's no reason not to present both viewpoints. Switchy could write a new section saying "FemDom may have a more restricted meaning ..." Ropeuser 07:46, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
