Sounds like it should come from Greek, but I'm have having trouble finding suitable roots in my Greek dictionary, and the Perseus classical lexicon site is currently down... AnonMoos 23:55, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

The Perseus site is back up, but I'm still having trouble figuring out an etymology. The verb Ag-a-mai (deponent) means "to admire", but there's difficulty getting -top- in there in any way which would help to give the desired meaning. The closest words are Agastos, meaning "admirable", and Agasmos, meaning "object of adoration". AnonMoos 20 January 2007
