Typically, the fantasy is enhanced by props. The "dog" wears bondage mittens to simulate paws and make him/her more helpless, and has a butt plug with an attached tail to simulate a real tail. He/she should have a collar with a leash. A dog-like hood adds greatly to the authenticity. A gag may be used to stop the "dog" talking and again make him/her more helpless.
