Dita Von Teese
Dita von Teese (born Sept. 28, 1972 in Rochester, Michigan, as Heather Renée Sweet) is a stage performer and fetish model.
Her stage name consists of the first name "Dita" (after silent movie actress Dita Parlo), made popular by Madonna's song "Erotica" (line: "My name is Dita") and a play on the term "to tease" completed with the aristocratic German addition "von". (However, she is not of German descent.)
The still widely unknown Dita von Teese was discovered by German photographer Peter W. Czernich in the 1990s and graced the cover of his Marquis Magazine multiple times in several latex outfits. She quickly got the attention of other photographers and appeared in Playboy Magazine in 1999 and 2000.
Inspired by legendary burlesque performer Bettie Page, Dita von Teese developed her own kind of burlesque stage performance and helped make the whole genre popular again. Her most popular performance has her playing inside an oversized champagne glass.
She gained further celebrity status by marrying musician Marilyn Manson in 2005 but filed for divorce in 2006.
