A bondage mitten

A bondage mitten (sometimes called a bondage mitt) is a pouch-like covering that fastens securely around the wrists, holding the hands in closed fists or palms flat. It is often used in BDSM play.

It is in effect a leather bag attached to a wrist cuff. The bag encloses the hand and makes manipulation of objects (such as undoing straps) virtually impossible. Unlike mittens for cold-weather use, bondage mittens are tubes or bags without a separate thumb and are typically made of leather or some other stiff material to prevent the wearer from grasping through the material of the mittens.

There are two basic designs of bondage mittens: one with a loose-fitting bag (often with D-rings attached to the end), and one with a much closer-fitting bag which holds the hand clenched in a fist. The latter type is often used in activities like dog play where someone is made to walk around on all fours. With the 'palms flat' type, they are so stiff and close-fitting that they should make it impossible to close the hand into a fist. With this type, there is often a ring at the tip to which ropes can be connected for further tying-up.

Similar mitten-like devices exist for institutional use as patient restraints.
